As you lay lifeless in your bed, we gather outside your window to watch you drift away. You have not left this earth, but somehow you are no longer with us. We sit upon the branch, claws gently wrapped around the wooden arms of mother earth's grandest creation, and wonder if you'll return to us for just a moment. Your rib cage expands to indicate life, but your body remains still like a shadow under a fixed light. The deeper you fall into your second world, the louder our breath echoes in your ears.
When you begin to enter euphoria, we creep through the cracks in the worn window - tracing alongside the walls as to not wake you. Traveling through the bedpost, we place ourselves at your side to induce true hallucination. In this state, your inner fantasies and desires are realized without apology. In the morning when you wake, you may vaguely remember the love you don't often claim. Others will turn to recall our frequent visits, but you will gently look past your company and whisper, "I can never remember." Although it seems you are ashamed of us, we will wait for your like a lonesome Queen. Each night returning like your shadow under the moonlight and bringing you pearls of rain from a land that doesn't rain.
