- On The Shelf -
` "Tick, Tock, tick, tock….DONG", the golden, grandfather clock echoes as midnight falls upon the whole house. Gently, each family member tussles in their bed from the sound, but remain sound asleep, as they have grown accustom to their predictably loud family member. As the sound waves travel, they tickle the floors, caress the chandeliers of pure crystals and burnt ostrich feathers, and finally awaken the dolls on the shelves.
Wiggling their toes and stretching their fingers, the porcelain creations have waited all day long to come alive and play. Descending from lucite shelves, their centimeters in size feet patter on the ground and barely make a sound. Traveling through the halls, they play games of tag, and hide & seek. Laughing and crying in pure joy, they hear a noise and make a dash to hide from who is around. These dolls, small in size, peek their heads to witness something 50 times their height. It is a human seeking a midnight snack to satisfy their tummy's craving. Frightened of becoming spotted, they travel along-side the walls. Tip-toeing back to the shelf on which they live, they pass the refrigerator light with eyes spooked wide, climb onto the rope they had left behind, and gently place themselves back as dolls on the shelf.
